Wisdom Teeth Extractions at Rivergum Smiles
Oral Surgery Offered in Mill Park
Wisdom teeth are the last set of molars that we develop. While they start forming as early as prepubescent years, most third molars are not completely formed until the late teens or 20s.
Wisdom teeth often develop at an angle or are partially-impacted inside of the jaw, causing them to push against the teeth next to them. As a result, it’s common to experience symptoms of:
Proactive wisdom tooth removal can prevent complications to overall oral health and facilitate an environment that is easy to maintain through regular brushing and flossing. For Rivergum Smiles patients that have completed orthodontic treatment, it’s important to monitor crowding or shifting in teeth positioning. Wear your retainer as prescribed and discuss having your wisdom teeth removed to prevent relapse of your bite alignment.
Having Your Wisdom Teeth Removed
To determine if your third molars should be extracted, we’ll take an X-ray of your jaws to evaluate the tooth’s position inside of your mouth. If removal is needed, we’ll arrange to book you for a sedation appointment to help you feel comfortable and relaxed.
Plan to eat soft foods for the first several days following your extractions. Pudding, ice cream, gelatine and mashed potatoes are a few examples. We’ll provide you with written instructions on medication use, cleaning your mouth and when to use cold compresses to relieve any swelling.
Same Day Appointments
If you suspect that you or your child’s wisdom teeth are starting to come in, we recommend scheduling an evaluation with one of our family dentists. Same day appointments are available for your convenience.
